The Greatest Showman

On Saturday 8 September at 7.30 p.m., St Paul's begins a new series of Community Film Shows. This first film, "The Greater Showman" is a popular musical suitable for families, based on the life of TP Barnum, who built a spectacle and introduced Show Business.
Don't miss it! We hope to see you there.

Celebrate with food – BBQ

As a final celebration of the holiday club, the church’s car park was cleared and a barbecue set up after Sunday's morning service. All the congregation and all those who are taking part in the holiday club – leaders helpers and children and their parents – were invited.

Thank you to all those who organised the practicalities of the barbecue. A delicious smell wafted past all those who were present, and the sausages (traditional and veggie), burgers and kebabs were delicious. As also were the salads that had been brought and the deserts, too. So thank you to all those who provided food in abundance.

It was a very happy and enjoyable time and a fitting climax to the Champions Challenge holiday club.

Church Fete 2009

Under a blazing sun and a perfect blue sky, hundreds of neighbours gathered on Hamble Green next to the church for a fabulous fete.

It was really encouraging that the event drew people from all backgrounds and brought our community together. Sue and Wendy organised the whole affair, with generous support and hard work from a wide range of volunteers and friends. Thanks to all of them for one of the highlights of our year so far.

Harvest Fete - 12 September 2009

There's bunting outside the church. Stalls and games are ready. The grass on Hamble Green has been trimmed by the Council and the weather forecasters promise us a lovely day!

The fete opens at 12 noon and runs all afternoon, so if you're in the area, come down to Hamble Road and enjoy the fun.

Quiz night raised £150 for CMS

Last week's fish and chip supper and quiz night raised an amazing £150 for the work of CMS, a mission society which we're delighted to support.

Ruth Biddulph of CMS writes,
Thank you for your generous gift of £150 towards the work of CMS. We are passionate about transforming lives around the world through sharing Jesus, and we are encouraged that you share this passion.
CMS currently works in partnership with approximately 700 people in mission in over 60 different countries, including the UK.

Thanks to Paul and Teri for organising one of the very best evenings of entertainment at St Paul's.

It's a people thing

Last night we enjoyed ourselves with 32 people packed into our home for one of our regular "Welcome Nights". The idea is really simple. We invited everyone who's been involved with the recent Alpha course plus all those who've joined St Paul's in recent months. No agenda, no planning, just people.

It's good to chat over a cuppa at the end of a service but often those conversations are limited to a few minutes. So a longer evening gave us all the chance to get to know each other a little better.

Thanks to everyone who came and made it a very special night.

Questions, questions

We had a brilliant quiz night last night. The turnout was tremendous - a sell out of over sixty people.

Many thanks to Paul and Teri for their planning and organising of this event, and for fetching all those fish and chips. It was a great opportunity to enjoy each other's company.

As usual, you can see a larger view of the photo by clicking on it.

Elegance

Here's a selection of very elegant people, taken at last night's church social event. Paul and Teri organised an Evening of Elegance which was supported by over 60 people. We enjoyed the glamour and found that we do 'bling' rather well. David Foulds took us on a tour of elegant Florence, with slides taken during a recent break.

Click the picture to see Paul, Mike, Teri, David, Cynthia, Clarissa, Isis, Jenny, Angharad, Dinah, Gilda and Sheridan in greater (and more glorious) detail.

It's great that there's no dress-code at St Paul's. People come and worship as they are, which is as it should be. But it's also good to put on the style every now and then!

Coffee Pot

Coffee Pot is our regular weekly coffee morning, held at St Paul's Church in Oadby from 10.30am until 12.00noon. There's always a friendly welcome and a chance to relax with new friends.

Coffee Pot organises regular outings and activities in addition to its Thursday meetings and is an ideal way of making friends and overcoming loneliness and isolation.

An evening of elegance - 27 January 2007

Paul has come up trumps with the latest plan for a church social. Billed as 'an evening of elegance', it promises to be a night of sophistication and style. The evening is free, and your invited to bring your own wine. David Foulds will take us on a slideshow tour of Florence, once we've digested the cheese and 'interesting nibbles'.

If you're in the area, take a look at the posters and book with Teri as soon as you can.
