Prayers for all those affected by the Helicopter tragedy

On Sunday afternoon I visited the King Power stadium with my family and we left an electric tea light each 'with love and prayers'. As we added them to the ever growing tributes to those who lost their lives we were struck by silence of such a large crowd. We prayed for the family and friends of those affected by what had taken place and for the emergency services doing their jobs.
The Bishop of Leicester has written this prayer
God of all grace,
You love all that you have made,
And your mercy is over all the world,
Comfort those who grieve for loved ones,
Strengthen those who care for the bereaved,
And support this great city of Leicester,
As we work together to express your love,
We ask this in your holy name.
Amen

Lego swap shop

On Sunday we held our latest Fun@4 where we looked at the story of the walls of Jericho. We played games, had craft and sung songs as well as watched a video of the story followed by a delicious tea. We also held a Lego Card swap shop! Lots of people from church donated their packs from Sainsbury's and we managed to complete a number of the young peoples books. Thanks to those who sorted them all out and to all who came along and joined us.

Simon on the Move

It has just been announced that our previous vicar, Simon Harvey, is to move from St Mary's Islington and take charge of Saint Mary's Church Bury St Edmunds.

More details can be found by following this link:  http://www.stmaryislington.org/news/move

We pray that this move may be a blessing to Simon and Jo and to the folk in Bury St Edmunds.
Please keep them all and the congregation that they are leaving in Islington in your prayers.

Bible Society

The charity supported by St Paul's, that we are  concentrating on in our prayers and presentations this month,  is the Bible Society. On the website, they explain their work as follows: "Working in over 200 countries, Bible Society is a charity on a global mission to bring the Bible to life for every man, woman and child. We believe that when people engage with the Bible, lives can change – for good."
We will be celebrating Bible Sunday later this month.

Talking Jesus

Talking Jesus is a new series of sermons. Steve breached the first in the series yesterday, telling of his hope that the series may help people to find it a little more easy to share their faith with others. He shared some research which showed that there was some sympathy for the Christian faith among those who did not currently believe.

We look forward to more of the series.

Welcome Back Keith

Among our congregation yesterday was Keith Waddell. Keith is an eye surgeon who leads a team based in Mbarara in Uganda and is on home leave. Keith was invited to give us an update of his work and he told how his project caring for retinoblastoma (an eye cancer usually found in children) has now expanded to neighbouring Rwanda and also to South Sudan, DRC and Burundi.

Let’s pray for this practical expression by the Christian church of the love of God for these needy people.

The Debt Saviours - Christians Against Poverty

The BBC have been making a documentary about Christians Against Poverty and it will be aired Friday 5th October at 9pm on BBC2. The BBC have give the programme the name 'The Debt Saviours'

CAP took a huge step of faith in allowing this film to be made ( faith spelt R-I-S-K!) . The film feature the stories of clients whose lives have been transformed initially through debt help but through prayer and introduction to Jesus.

CAP are urging us to tell our Christian friends to watch this programme to encourage them that Jesus working though his church really can transform lives ( if they don't already know!) CAP are also asking for prayer that those who do not have faith will be challenged positively and will see Christians Against Poverty as a force for good in our very secular society.

Harvest Celebrations

On Sunday we held our Harvest Celebrations. Many thanks to all who worked hard to decorate the church and to all those who gave so generously. All the goods received were shared between Oadby Food Bank and The Welcome Project. In her sermon Gillian looked at the journey of tomatoes from the field to the supermarket shelf with 15 different stages in the process. It was great to see so many in church and a joy to welcome a number of visitors.
