As the midnight
hour approached on Christmas Eve, we met for the first Communion of Christmas.
During the first half of the service, we considered what was important that we
were waiting for at Christmas and what would be left after Christmas was over –
it would be the work of Christ, who came to save us, and continues to want to live
in our lives. In the second half of the service, we shared in Communion, and as
we shared in the bread and the wine, tokens of you that death, we remembered
that that salvation was obtained by Christ’s cross some 30 years after that
first Christmas.
