Petertide Ordinations

Today is the feast day of St Peter & St Paul. Our churches in Oadby are named after these two apostles. We pray today for all churches dedicated to Peter & Paul, their congregations and clergy. We also pray for those who will be ordained this weekend. See the list below for those being ordained in Leicester Cathedral. We also remember Tosin Oladipo who will be ordained this weekend at St Paul's in London. Tosin grew up as a member here.

Summer Read - Dirty Glory

This year I am recommending the excellent book 'Dirty Glory' by the founder of the 24/7 prayer movement, Pete Greig. Subtitled 'go where your best prayers take you', it is an inspiring read about the power of prayer and the continuing work of 24/7 prayer. I have 30 copies available at the discounted price of £7.50 (rrp £9.99) so do get your copy quickly and be encouraged as you read.

Helping the Poorest in Uganda

The focus of our charitable giving this month is the Friends of Africa International Christian Ministry, (AICM) of which one of our congregation is a trustee. AICM works in the south-west corner of Uganda among some of the poorest people there, especially the Batwa, the Pygmy people on the edge of society.

AICM has provided new schools for their children, and included a feeding programme, enabling to take advantage of the education offered. It also brings good news of the love of Jesus, who came to bring good news to the poor.

Farewell Jonathan and Janet

Jonathan and Janet Hales have been active members of St Paul’s church for many years, including their work with young people. This week they have moved to the West Country to be nearer family. Although we wish them well, they will be sorely missed.

Last Sunday – their last Sunday with us, they were called forward to the front of the church, where Steve interviewed them, and then, joined by other members of the congregation prayed for them and their new life.

We pray that God may bless them in this new stage, and may they be a blessing to others, as they have been to us.
